About The Back Porch News
I started The Back Porch News to provide a timely source of news for the folk music community. While we have fine print publications, radio and web broadcasters and web sites and email lists about various aspects of our community. I don’t think there is an online source dedicated to news about the folk world.
I hope you’ll find it fun, and useful enough to stop back often. Even better, a website doesn’t have to be static like a newspaper or magazine, you can leave a comment and read comments by other readers on any article. Or if you’d rather, you can drop me a line using the contact form. If you’ve got news to share, or see something elsewhere that you think should be mentioned here send it along.
I’m Ken McKinney a long time folk music fan and board member of the Cornell Folk Song Society in Ithaca NY.
If you have news to share I’d be delighted to hear from you. Use the contact form to get in touch.
What do I consider news? Events happy or sad which are of interest to the whole folk music community, new venue openings closings, anniversaries, awards, births, deaths, publications and so on. Clarity and brevity are appreciated. The less it sounds like it came from a corporate marcom department the better.
This is not the place to publicize your venue or gig schedule. Our audience is too wide spread geographically for it to be useful to many of them. There are already lots of channels to get that information out in any case.
