Cyril Tawney author of ‘Grey Funnel Line’, ‘Chicken On A Raft’, ‘Sammy’s Bar’, ‘Monday Morning’ and many other great songs died April 21st after a long battle with a bone infection.
Tawney was active in the British folk revival since the 1950′s as a collector, performer, organizer and radio host. He was particularly interested in the traditonal music of South West England especially Devon and Cornwall. A navy veteran, He also researched and published a book “Grey Funnel Lines” about 20th century songs of the British Navy.
He was one of the first revival preformers to begin writing his own material and many of his songs remain folk club staples.
