Utah Phillips 70th Birthday Celebration

I usually don’t post event announcements on Back Porch News but this seemed worth an exception especially since the the proceedings will KVMR steams on the web. -Ken

The Peace Center of Nevada County will lovingly host a 70th Birthday Party for Nevada City’s legendary, folk-singing, songwriting, storytelling, organizing, historian, philosopher and hobo, Utah Phillips. This gala event will also celebrate the occasion of the release of Utah’s four-disk audio-songbook collection “Starlight on the Rails“, a collection of songs and stories from over forty years of experiences traveling, writing, performing, agitating, and recording history. The evening will also include a live broadcast concert beginning at 7pm on community radio station KVMR featuring the following musicians who will play to honor their dear friend: Bodi Busick, Dakota Sid Clifford, Nory Fussell, Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald, Kuddie, Faith Petrick, Saul Rayo, Peter Wilson and others. The Radical Cheerleaders will be on hand to stir up some spunk, the Buffalo Gals String Band will strum and pick for dancing after the concert, and miscellaneous merriment will fill the air. Festivities begin at 6:30 (doors open at 6). Refreshments and hors douvres will be served and, of course, there will be cake for all! This event is a benefit for Peace Center of Nevada County, a project near and dear to Utah’s heart. For more information contact PCNC at 478-0699.

KVMR can be found on the web at www.kvmr.org The broadcast airs at 7pm Pacific Time.
