No Direction Home

I really enjoyed No Direction Home even though I’m inclined to agree with Steven Hart’s assessment that it sheds little light on the man himself. A couple of less critical reviews can be found here and here.

It does offer a glimpse into the Greenwich Village folk scene in the heady days of the early sixties and includes a lot of great music and some rare and previously unseen concert footage. I particularly liked the interview segments with Dave Van Ronk.

In a related note. The scenes from the Newport Festival in ‘No Direction’ are from Murry Lerners film “Festival!”. Ron Olesko reports that after languishing for many years that film will be released on DVD October 18th!
