Redhouse Records President Bob Feldman Dead at 56
Redhouse Records president Bob Feldman has died. He was 56.
Feldman restarted Greg Brown’s dormant Redhouse label in 1983 and built it into one of the formost labels in folk music. With a roster that has included Rosalie Sorrels, Utah Phillips, Adrian Legg, Eliza Gilkyson, Loudon Wainwright III, Robin and Linda Williams, Claudia Schmidt, Greg Brown and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott.
Elliott’s “South Coast” won a Grammy for best traditional folk album in 1996 and orver the years several other Red House albumns have been nominated.
Update: Christine Lavin sent this to the folk DJ email list
Bob’s cousin Gail said their family would love to hear from the music community any stories about Bob, how you felt about Red House, anything like that. Even if you didn’t know him personally, if you have played his artists over the years, you know how much he cared about good music. This is a very difficult time for his family, and hearing good things about Bob would help comfort them. Here’s the link: http://www.legacy.com/Link.asp?ID=GB16304248 Sincerely, Christine Lavin

Like many other venue and series promoters, I have hosted different Red House artists. Though they all were represented by many different agencies, you knew what you were getting because they were on Red House. For me, it was and always will be a solid mark of credibility. I never met Bob Feldman, but appreciate the toil and passion he had for this industry which promotes music out of the true love and integrity of it, not for the money. He will be missed.

Yes, Redhouse has recorded a lot of very fine artists. It’s sad to lose someone who’s given so much to the folk world.
