As is often the case some of the choices seem, well not terribly folk. The academy’s notion of ‘Traditional’ is particularly odd. To be fair Academy members are presented with a phone book size ballot and have to make selections on styles of music that they aren’t particularly familiar with. For folk music awards by a more knowledgeable audience look for the awards by the Folk Alliance which will be announced this coming weekend.
