Plowshares Songwriting Contest Winners for 2006

Hudson Harding Music and the Plowshares Songwriting Contest have announced the contest winners for 2006.

Says host Eric Balkey…

The finals showcase was simply stunning. One after the other, each performer really delivered. The audience was ready to love each perfomer, and simply wasn’t disappointed. Every performer rose to the occasion, and the fact that only two get mention is truly a disservice. Each of the finalists should be congratulated for excellence in songwriting craft and performace: Jennie Avila, Carsie Blanton, Joe Giacoio, Daniel Lee, Mike Morris, Zoe Mulford, James O’Malley and Steve Quelet. These finalists made their way through three rounds of judging of 130 entries.

We were also proud to present feature sets from last year’s winner Joe Jencks, and invited guest John Flynn.

We thank the finals judges: Gene Shay (host of the Folk Show on WXPN), Bob Cohen and Dianne Tankle (from the Philadelphia Folksong Society), and Marc Douglas Berardo (two-time contest finalist).

The host venue was Plowshares. Thanks to Lucy Bonnington for allowing us to make this happen every year in such a wonderful room. The priliminary round were screened and judged by eight local Philadelphia area songwriters.
