FAR-West to Host Northwest Acoustic Music Summit

PORTLAND, May 8, 2006 — Folk Alliance Region - West (FAR-West) will host a gathering of the Northwest acoustic music community in Portland on July 22nd 2006. The event will kick off with a summit meeting at 1:00 p.m. at Mississippi Studios, 3939 N. Mississippi Ave., includes dinner, and will conclude with a juried showcase of independent Northwest acoustic musicians.

The FAR-West Acoustic Music Summit offers valuable opportunities for networking among performers, venue operators, presenters, promoters, media, DJs and radio programmers in the Northwest United States and Western Canada.

“The summit will provide information about the benefits of membership in FAR-West and its parent organization, the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance), as well as the benefits of attending the regional and national conferences held by these organizations,” said Steve Dulson, president of FAR-West, who will speak at the event. “The FAR-West Acoustic Music Summit will identify areas in which on-going cooperation among members of the local music scene can be particularly beneficial.” The summit meeting and conference sessions will conclude at 5:00 pm, followed by a catered dinner. An evening of music showcasing six outstanding local acts will follow, celebrating the quality and diversity of the dynamic Northwest acoustic music scene. Showcase acts will be announced on July 1, 2006.

The FAR-West Acoustic Music Summit in Portland is open to musicians, venue operators, presenters, promoters, media, radio personnel, and any one interested in becoming involved in the Northwest music scene. The summit meeting and discussions, dinner and evening music showcases are all covered in the registration fee of $25 in advance at $30 at the door.

The FAR-West Acoustic Music Summit in Portland is the third such meeting that FAR-West has hosted. The first was in Altadena, Calif. in 2003, followed by a second event in Berkeley in 2004. The first two FAR-West conferences were also held in southern California in 2004 and 2005.
