Article written by Ken on Sunday, Sep 24, 2006 in Passings

‘Labor’s Troubadour’, Joe Glazer passed away last Tuesday at 88. Labor educator, singer and songwriter Glazer often performed on picket lines and at union rallies and conventions. A collector and preserver of union songs he also wrote quite a few himself the best known of which is probably ‘The Mill Was Made of Marble’.

His 1960 collaboration with Edith Fowke Songs of Work and Protest” is considered to be one of the one of the most significant labor history songbooks ever written.

The Washington Post and The New York Times both have obituaries. Ron Olesko also posted a remembrance.
