Canadian Folk Music Award Nominees for 2006
The Canadian Folk Music Awards have announced the nominees for the 2006 awards, to be handed out at a December 10th ceremony at Edmonton’s Myer Horowitz Theater. The Awards show will be hosted by Connie Kaldor and Gilles Garand and feature performances by Anita Best - Newfoundland, The Bills - B.C., Alpha Yaya Diallo - B.C.Maria Dunn - Alberta, Claude Méthé - Québec, Lynn Miles - Ontario, Digging Roots - Ontario and Ian Tyson - Alberta. The Awards will be broadcast nationally on CBC Radio 2 Dec. 15th at 8:00 PM.
The Canadian Folk Music Awards recognize Canada’s outstanding writers, producers and performers of folk music and the artists who are expanding the genre in innovative and exciting ways. The awards also celebrate the magnificent diversity of Canada’s musical heritage – from the musical traditions of Aboriginal Canada to Celtic, Acadian and traditional Quebecois styles, singer-songwriter music, blues, bluegrass and old-tyme country and the myriad of global traditions brought to Canada by each new wave of immigration.
