Denny Doherty of The Mamas & The Papas Has Died
Denny Doherty one of the members of the pop/folk group ‘The Mamas & The Papas’ has died at 66. Doherty along with Cass Elliot and John and Michelle Phillips formed the group in 1965. One of a number of pop groups arising out of the 60’s folk scene they had several enduring hits including “California Dreamin’” and “Monday Monday” and were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in 1998. Doherty sang the male lead on most of the groups songs.
Doherty died yesterday at his Mississauga Ontario home after a short illness.
