Job Opening: Swallow Hill Music Association Executive Director
The Swallow Hill Music Association seeks a dynamic, experienced and creative Executive Director to lead, develop and operate the organization.
Located in Denver, Colorado, The Swallow Hill Music Association is the largest folk, roots and acoustic music organization west of the Mississippi. Swallow Hill is an award winning 30-year-old non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and presentation of folk and roots music. It currently presents more than 250 concerts a year in a 22,000 square foot facility with two concert halls and a coffee house. Through its on-site music school, Swallow Hill provides instruction to more than 3000 students enrolled in 300+ classes.
Key Responsibilities: The Executive Director is to lead the organization into a period of expansion and growth. Working closely with the Board of Directors, s/he will develop a strong Capacity Building Plan, including grant-seeking, funding development, membership retention and expansion, philanthropic giving, and business and donor partnerships. Duties include financial management, supervision of department heads, overseeing the physical plant, general personnel management including hiring and firing, and representing the organization to the public and to funding sources. The Executive Director will submit an annual budget to the Board of Directors with full discretion over the use of those funds after the budget is approved.
Qualifications include: Demonstrated ability to develop and lead organizations through periods of growth and expansion in a non-profit or a business environment. A minimum of five years’ experience in music, arts, cultural preservation or other related fields. Sophisticated executive, leadership, entrepreneurial, marketing and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Experience in obtaining grants and donations from a variety of public and private sources. Personal knowledge of a wide number of cultural and entertainment organizations is highly preferable. College degree is required and an advanced degree is a plus.
Salary to be commensurate with experience, and benefits will include health insurance.
