Music has always been an essential part of my life. I listen to folk, rock, classic country, old-style gospel and a little blues, Native American and Celtic — basically, American roots music. My folk music interests include everything from Gordon Lightfoot and Joan Baez to Ollabelle and the BeGoodTanyas. Plus a tiny bit of world folk music as I find it, such as The Epiphany Project or Otavalomanta.
Listening to music and, from time to time, working on my own music helps me maintain sanity and balance in the midst of a corporate environment. My long-term goal is to be a full-time writer and musician; acquiring the Back Porch News is one way of writing more often and of becoming more involved in the folk music community.
