Savannah, Georgia opens its annual music extravaganza later this month, showing off musical talent in categories ranging from classical to rock. Folk music artists (variously classified as bluegrass, old time, country/Americana and southern traditional folk) include, among others, the Lovell Sisters, Dan Gellert and daughter Rayna Gellert (of Uncle Earl), The Infamous Stringdusters, Tim Ericksen and Caroline Herring.

Bonnie Raitt was scheduled to perform, but recently postponed her Savannah appearance until October due to family health concerns. Tickets will be reissued for that particular concert.

Corey Harris and Beverly “Guitar” Watkins take part in the festival’s concert series “The Blues Was Born Here.” Bela Fleck’s Africa Project and the combination of Vasen, a string trio from Sweden, with fiddler Darol Anger and mandolinist Mike Marshall are among the world music performances.

A key element of the vocal category is the American Traditions Competition, to be held April 1-4. Quarterfinalists from around the country have already been named and will vie for over $30,000 in prize money.
