Music historian Alan Lomax recorded folk musicians not only throughout the southeastern United States but also in various other countries. During the mid-1930s he made extensive recordings of musical performances in Haiti. The recordings, kept in the Library of Congress since that time, were the basis for a 10-CD boxed set released last November.
In addition to the Spinner story referenced above, the Wall Street Journal and the Chicago Sun-Times both have reviews of the collection. The set is available at a discount for a limited time in conjunction with a donation of part of the proceeds to Haiti relief activities.
