[...] Sharon at The Back Porch News: Mary Travers, of Peter, Paul and Mary, died today in hospital after battling cancer for several years. Read the full AP story at any of these sites: MSNBC, Yahoo or The New York Times. As someone who sang “Blowin’ in the Wind” along with my friend’s record as a pre-teen, walked out on a high school talent pageant runway to the music of “Leaving on a Jet Plane” and cried to the sound of “Day is Done” just a few years ago when a member of my family was overseas in a militarized zone, I feel that a piece of my life is gone. And yet all those wonderful songs will be with us for a long time. Mary will be remembered as part of the music that shaped many of our lives. [...]

Indeed a part of our hearts, for so many people around the world, is grieving at the news of Mary’s passing last night. But if Mary were here she would be singing to us “Weave, weave, weave me a sunshine out of the falling rain. Weave me a hope for a new tomorrow. Fill my cup again.” Mary cared so deeply for the world and it’s people, but hers was a message of hope and peace and love. We can honor her spirit by keeping the flame of her ideals alive and spreading that Light to others. Mary, you add so much to the heavenly choirs right now!

Walts music reminds me of home. The music is sweet and comforting, his voice soothing whether singing of optimism or sorrow. Like home, his music is inviting and easy to be with.

Did you ever have one of those days? "From the time I was born, I could've sworn, Things might not go my way." I laughed so hard I cried. Just a lot of real stuff that folk can relate to. Although he did find a brand new day.
Some sad things that we should take heed of in our world. It's up to the people to change it, not the government. We lead. Thanks Sharon. And Walt.

I've know Walter for a long time. First and last time I ever got arrested was with him. We were twelve and pool hopping. And I've seen his growth as an artist, and the courage and persistence it's taken for him to put his voice out there. I like to listen to the Gousters because the music is catchy and Walt's stories are full of heartfelt truths. He's a no BS guy, and I'm glad to see him getting a little recognition. Walt deserves it.

We're just home from the Will McLean Festival. Dunnellon is a beautiful part of Florida and I thank them for having the festival in a region of Florida I had previously missed during our travels. The area reminds me of Kentucky somehow??? Who knew! It's a larger site than two years ago. There is the same problem with getting anywhere quickly! It's not the distance, it's that there are so many wonderful people to hug, talk to and try and catchup just a little bit. The food was wonderful. One lady who was a first timer couldn't stop raving, "Do you know what you would pay for this in Boston??" We just smiled contentedly and said ,"No". The music was just as it always is WONDERFUL. The stages were well attended and the work shops were too! Then these amazing musicians continued to play through out the night. Thanks to all . We saw someone recording the performances. Please Please show them somewhere that more people can see what amazing performers are in Florida. U-tube or where ever. Thanks to Tom Shed for explaining what the red stain on the sidewalks and walls really is. I'm from Missouri originally and I really thought they were rust. Environmentalists can be useful too! Who Knew?
